Week 9 Thing 23 - Summarize

I can't believe this program is over! I am really going to miss working on my blog every week. I would definitely enjoy doing another project in the future.
For me, this was a great accomplishment. I have always been afraid to play around with technology, of what I'm not sure. It isn't like the computer will blow up if I do something wrong. There were times when I would do an exercise and I just couldn't downloaad something, or understand it, but I would be determined to figure it out for myself. Believe me, that wasn't how I used to be. I would normally give up after the first try, and then feel like a failure for not finishing the task. This time I felt this drive in me that wouldn't let me give up, and I only asked for help two times. My favorite exercises were, Library Thing, YouTube and Flickr. It was fun cataloging my books, and I will probably continue to do so for my own pleasure. Playing around with YouTube was fun too. I found one on the site that I downloaded and I also created my own and published it to my blog. There was so many different things to do while exploring Flickr! I downloaded photos, and searched for photos on that site, and did some other fun things.
In our department we thought maybe it would be fun to create a blog when we get our new bookmobile. We could possibly blog with others all over the state, and maybe the country about ouur experiences. My husband was so impressed, that now he would like me to set up a blog for him. He recently became a licensed minister and would like to share some thoughts on a blog. So, who knows where I'll go from here. The possiblilties are limitless. I can picture librarians sharing ideas with each other on a blog. This was great, and I'm glad I was part of it!!

I did a lot of exploring on these sites. I even downloaded Overdrive Media Console onto my home computer. I honestly couldn't find a book that I would like to download, but I will keep searching. I thought it would be a great idea to download a book onto my Ipod,then when I go to the beach in September, I could listen to a good book while watching the waves and feeling the ocean breeze.

I think I found a cool Podcast. It is about a Camel Bookmobile. An American librarian invented the camel bookmobile to bring literacy to nomads living in northeastern Kenya. I took this video clip when we were getting ready to out on the road. I love YouTube!
This would be a great tool to use for all types of library programs to give people an idea of what it is about. For instance, maybe a short clip to introduce a puppet show, storytimes, and even a book review. I have really enjoyed this exercise!

FAREWELL OLD FRIEND

To some she wasn't very dependable. She was old and worn out. Many people, young and old alike, came to depend on her. When she didn't show up, there were a lot of disappointed people. To some she brought a sense of adventure, an opportunity to travel to places only their imaginations could take them. She'll be replaced by another one; younger, with no bruises, dents or scratches. The younger one will be the talk of the town, and everyone will want to visit her.

But the old, broken down one will never be forgotten. Goodbye Ole' Girl, goodbye Blue Bookmobile.

This was very easy to post, unlike ZoHo. I'm not sure why I had such a hard time.

My husband and I are about to become grandparents again. Number 12 is on the way, and we found out just today that a little boy will be joining the family. This makes 9 boys, and three girls! We are very happy and excited to welcome this new little one, and maybe a little stressed when we think about Christmas$$$$$$$. It will be fun though. Our kids won't tell us the name of the baby; they said there has to be some surprise.

ZoHo is fun and easy. I think I will use this tool in place of Microsoft Works. I am amazed at how much I have learned in the past few weeks. After reading all this information, I realize how far libraries have come, and how much farther they will go. With all the technology out there, we will surely be able to meet the needs of the patrons. I could sit and read all day, and blog day and night, but I don't have time!!!! It has been an interesting adventure so far.
When I read the perspective titled "To More Powerful Ways to Cooperate", I saw this site at the bottom of the page, and thought this could be interesting and helpful to patrons.

Here is a magazine cover I designed.

As for technology that I am interested in, I guess I would have to say my new Ipod. I got one for a birthday present from my husband and I love it! I have an Itunes account, and I download music that I purchased with my Itunes gift card. Now when I sit at the beach, no more cd's, or cd player, no more worrying about ruined cd's from the sand.

I have my nifty little Ipod nano! Someone recently asked me if I was too old to have an Ipod!!!! Are we ever to old for new technology?

I finished the 7 1/2 Habits of Highly Sucessful Lifelong Learners. I think the hardest thing for me is having confidence in myself when it comes to learning new things. I get impatient and think I'm not able to accomplish anything. This has got to change! The easiest thing is playing. No pressure! I will finish 23 Things!!!

I was thinking how nice it would be if I was sitting at the beach creating my blog.
I could be sitting by the ocean, listening to the crashing waves, and feeling the ocean breeze. Instead, I'm sitting in my living room, with my cat purring in my ear, and that is almost as nice.
